Woodhouse Moor: the city’s green lung since 1857

Woodhouse Moor — most people just say “the Moor” — has been Leeds’ green lung since the council bought it in 1857: open grass and tree-lined avenues between Hyde Park and the universities.

It is the students’ park and the runners’ park: a skate park, basketball and tennis courts, five-a-side pitches, statues including Queen Victoria and the reformer Henry Marsden, and space for every fair and gathering the city throws at it.
