Potternewton Park: home of the Carnival

Potternewton Park is Chapel Allerton’s big park — and every August bank holiday it becomes the home of the Leeds West Indian Carnival, Europe’s longest-running Caribbean carnival, founded in 1967.

The rest of the year it is a classic local park: bowling greens, basketball, play areas and broad lawns under mature trees, a short walk from the cafés of Harrogate Road.
