The Hyde Park Picture House (1914) is one of the world’s last gas-lit cinemas — a little Edwardian palace on Brudenell Road that never stopped showing films, not even for two world wars.

A £4m restoration returned it in 2023 with its gas lights, ornate plasterwork and a second screen in the basement. The programme is art-house and repertory: this is where Leeds comes to watch films properly.
