Most of Leeds’ museum collection is never on display — it lives here. The Leeds Discovery Centre on Carlisle Road is the purpose-built store for over 1.3 million objects: natural history, archaeology, textiles, world cultures and more, racked in a climate-controlled warehouse.
You can’t just wander in: the way to see it is a free behind-the-scenes store tour, pre-booked and usually running on Wednesdays and Thursdays. Elephant skulls, meteorites and 250,000 pressed plants are among the highlights the guides pull out.
