Temple Newsam is Leeds’ great country house: a Tudor-Jacobean mansion — birthplace of Lord Darnley, husband of Mary, Queen of Scots — set in 1,500 acres of parkland landscaped by Capability Brown.

The house holds major collections of furniture, silver and paintings; outside are lakeside walks, a walled garden and Home Farm with its rare-breed animals. The grounds are free; the house charges a small admission.
