Rothwell Country Park: from colliery to wildflower meadows

Rothwell Country Park stands where Rothwell Colliery stood until 1983. The spoil heap is now a hill of wildflower meadows, the old workings are ponds and woodland, and the views run down the Aire valley.

Waymarked trails loop the site, there are carved stone sculptures to spot among the trees, and the park links into the wider Lower Aire Valley green corridor. Rothwell’s quiet green escape, five minutes from the town centre.
