Morley Community Hub and Library: a Carnegie gem on Commercial Street

Morley’s library is a building worth visiting in its own right. The handsome stone library on Commercial Street was built in 1905–06 with money from the steel magnate and philanthropist Andrew Carnegie, and opened on 27 October 1906 by the bestselling novelist Hall Caine. A plaque inside still records Carnegie’s gift, and the building is now Grade II listed.

Today the building is the Morley Community Hub and Library: books, free computers and internet, and council customer services under one roof. It is the natural first stop for anyone digging into Morley’s past in print — and the everyday reading room for the town.
