Otley’s Ellar Ghyll recycling site has been brightened up with floral displays made from recycled containers and decorations found at the site itself, helping the town reach the national final of Britain in Bloom.

The displays at the waste site were shown to the Britain in Bloom judges as part of Otley’s entry, alongside the town’s parks and green spaces. Otley has won gold at Yorkshire in Bloom for three years running, and organisers hoped it would become the first West Yorkshire town to take the top prize at the national awards.
Councillor Lucinda Yeadon, the council’s executive member for environment and sustainability, said the display at Ellar Ghyll truly represents the strong civic pride in Leeds and the surrounding areas, while Otley in Bloom chair Katie Burnett praised the whole community for contributing.
